This is something that all train crews fear. I don't kow the whole story, but IMO, the train that you could see evidently had his head up his ass. I'm an engineer for a railroad, and this is something we fear daily, along with hitting gas trucks.

Look closely and you can see the conductor jump from the engineers' side. I believe everyone survived.
